The Pata-Bata - also known as the Hoverby - is a butterfly-based Badnik from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. One of Dr. Eggman's more lacklustre Badnik models, the Pata-Bata has no clear offensive abilities and usually just flutters around in the air. It has a cylindrical pink body and flies about on rounded yellow wings.

Sonic the Hedgehog CD[]
Pata-Batas are encountered in the Palmtree Panic Zone. They have no offensive capabilities and will idly flutter about in the air. When encountered in Palmtree Panic's bad future, they have holes in their wings and fly slower than normal. They can be easily destroyed with a spin-jump and, due to how they are positioned in-game, pose little threat of contact damage.
Knuckles' Chaotix[]
In this game, Pata-Batas have been named "Hoverby Mk II" and appear in the Speed Slider stage. Their wings have been replaced by a pair of rotary fan engines which increase their speed somewhat, but their behaviour differs very little and they still possess no weapons, making them a minimal threat.
Sonic Lost World[]
Pata-Batas also appear in the Wii U/PC version of Sonic Lost World where they can be found in Desert Ruins Zone 2. At certain points in the level during which Sonic skydives, he must avoid multiple groups of six of these butterfly Badniks flying in circles. These Badniks however, are redesigned with blue wings and orange highlights, two holes in each wing, and a silver metallic body with a visible abdomen. Because Sonic is skydiving, he is unable to attack and therefore must avoid these Badniks instead of destroying them.

Sonic the Comic[]
In the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions, Pata-Batas are a part of Dr. Robotnik's Badnik army, although they only made a few appearances during the comic's run. Stationed in the Palmtree Panic Zone, they got relocated to the Green Hill Zone, where they began destroying the local inferior Badniks until the Seven Badniks brought them under control.
Archie Comics[]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Hoverby Mk II appeared in the "Spark of Life" arc in Sonic Universe. Having been left behind on Isolated Island by Dr. Eggman, they were reprogrammed by Dr. Ellidy to serve as his guards alongside other Badniks. This led to them being controlled by Phage in her attack on the island, but eventually being freed by Overclocked Nicole.
IDW Publishing[]
The Hoverby Badniks have appeared in IDW Publishing's ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog comics as part of Dr. Eggman's army.
