The Flamer is a type of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman and is a variant of the classic Orbinaut robot. This Badnik makes its only game appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II.
Overview[]
The Flamer appears as a metallic ball with eyes, with most of its body being a bright orange. The space under its eyes is turquoise while it sports black plates on its left and right sides. Hovering around the Flamer are four hemispherical devices that emit flames.
Flamers appear in the Oil Desert Zone, hovering from side to side in the air. Often, the areas they are patrolling are saturated with oil and they will use their torches to ignite the oil and create a field of flames to impede Sonic and Tails' progress. While their torches constantly rotate around their bodies, they will occasionally pull farther apart, granting the player a narrow gap to exploit and destroy them with either a Spin Jump, Homing Attack, or Sonic and Tails' Rolling Combo.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Flamers are a part of the Eggman Empire's Badnik Horde, specifically serving the Midesta Egg Army. They first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog #278 where they attacked the Freedom Fighters in the Arid Sands Zone.
