The IG-100 MagnaGuard is a highly advanced combat droid from the Star Wars universe. Manufactured by Holowan Mechanicals of the InterGalactic Banking Clan, the MagnaGuards were designed to be a smarter breed of battle droid capable of fighting Jedi. Their sophisticated programming allows them to learn new fighting techniques through training and their elegant construction allows them to perform unorthodox maneuvers that organic humanoids cannot. These superior droids were originally comissioned to serve as bodyguards for General Grievous who personally trains them to match and counter the fighting styles of the Jedi.
Throughout the Clone Wars, the Confederacy has deployed small contingents of MagnaGuards as advanced surgical strike groups. Capable of strategic thinking, they are able to fulfill a variety of roles on the battlefield: assault, piloting, sabotage, etc. Being designed to kill Jedi, MagnaGuards are extremely tough and make difficult opponents for anyone lacking Force sensitivity. They can wield a number of weapons in battle but are most often seen carrying electrostaffs. Electrostaffs are two-handed melee weapons made out of phrik alloy that is resistant to Jedi lightsabers and the ends of the staffs generate electromagnetic fields that can penetrate and neutralize ray shields.
