The Madmole is a type of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman. Modelled after a mole, it hides in the ground until an enemy approaches, then pops out to lob a projectile.

Description[]

The Madmole resembles a mole with blue and grey body plating and a yellow helmet on its head. It also has blue optics and a cone-shaped muzzle. Its stubby arms end in hoe-shaped appendages which it can use to dig or throw objects.

The Madmoles' design hasremained fairly consistent since their debut, except in Sonic Lost World where they had clamps for hands. Also, the Madmoles onboard the Flying Battery have a color scheme consisting of yellow shoulders and torsos, grey helmets and yellow optics.

Game appearances[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]

Madmoles appear as enemies in the Mushroom Hill Zone. They remain within their metallic hidey-holes until the player approaches, at which point they will pop out and attack by throwing a mushroom. The mushroom isn't harmful to the player by itself, but it sticks to the player character and causes them to bounce backwards, usually into a hazardous obstacle. The player must avoid the mushroom projectile and destroy the Madmole with a Spin Jump.

During the cutscene at the end of Mushroom Hill Zone's second act, the Flying Battery airship will fly over the player. A Madmole can be seen inside a cockpit-like pod.

Sonic Generations (3DS)[]

Madmoles appear in Mushroom Hill in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations. They retain their appearance and attack pattern from Sonic & Knuckles. They can be defeated with a single Spin Jump or Homing Attack.

Sonic Lost World[]

Madmole-Sonic-Lost-World

In the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, the Madmoles returned as enemies. During the game, the Madmoles and the other Badniks have been hijacked by the Deadly Six. They can be found in Silent Forest Zone 1 where they hide in groups in small burrows. Like in Sonic & Knuckles, Madmoles will pop out of their holes and they will pelt Sonic with bouncy mushrooms when he approaches them. The player can easily defeat them by using the Focused Homing Attack; the Flying Kick is useless against them as they will simply avoid it.

Sonic Mania[]

Madmoles appear in the second act of Flying Battery Zone, manning control pods much like the one seen at the end of Mushroom Hill in Sonic & Knuckles. Presumably, these Badniks are operating defensive systems aboard Eggman's ship, such as the electrical coils on the ship's exterior sections. A single hit from the player will destroy the Madmole pods and reduce the functionality of the electrical coils.
